PROXIMAL RESECTION OF THE PANCREAS HEAD (BERNE MODIFICATION OF BåGER’S OPERATION)

Immediate treatment results of 30 patients with chronic pancreatitis to whom Bernå variant of Beger’s operation was applied are analyzed in the article. In 15 patients (50%) cysts in the pancreas head area were revealed (an average cyst’s diameter was 48,9±13,0 mm), in 8 patients (26%) biliary hypertension was a complication of chronic pancreatitis, duodenal stenosis was verified in 2 (6%) patients, calcinosis was marked in 2 patients (6%).
Proceeding from the achieved results, Bernå modification is an adequate method of subtotal pancreas head resection in case of hard anatomical conditions. And if there are intrapancreatic cysts or pseudocysts of pancreas head area we consider this variant to be the operation of choice.
Comparative estimation of own results of Båger’s operation and its Bernå modification permits to conclude about easier technical carrying-out of Bernå variant, lesser intraoperative blood loss as well as lesser duration of the operation.

Keywords: chronic pancreatitis, duodenal-saving pancreas head resection, Bernå modification of Båger’s operation
