THE FIRST EXPERIENCE OF SIMULTANEOUS PANCREAS-KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION IN BELARUS. ANESTHESIA AND INTENSIVE THERAPY PECULIARITIES OF THE POST-TRANSPLANTATIONAL PERIOD

This article covers the question of simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation (SPKT). General historical and statistical data and one case report of successful SPKT are presented in the article. The patient had diabetes mellitus type I (DM I type) and by the time of pancreas-kidney transplantation she had already been on a chronic hemodialysis for one year. SPKT let the patient completely give up exogenous insulin injections and hemodialysis. Also this article contains some information on peculiarities of intensive care in early postoperative period and distant results. According to literature data and worldwide practice SPKT is the only one radical method of treating DM I type complicated with chronic renal insufficiency.
